Holloway’s Pretty Good Horse Barn is one of the friendliest equestrian communities in Montana.

And that didn’t happen by accident. Founded in 2001 by Meggan and Jess Holloway, we began as a small training and boarding facility backed by big dreams. Through a lot of hard work, a commitment to live by our values, and the unwavering support of our clients, PGHB has grown into much more than “just another barn.”

We’re a community of knowledge-hungry equestrians united by a common passion for and appreciation of horses.

Meggan Holloway, Co-Owner

teacher | eventer

Meggan has ridden and owned horses since 1977—and loved horses long before that.

A New England transplant (with no regrets), she grew up taking English riding lessons, participating in Pony Club, eventing, and soaking up all the knowledge she could from her coaches and mentors.

Meggan went on to work as a Veterinary Technician in Vermont, California, and Montana. She also competed in eventing through the Preliminary Level, groomed for Canadian Olympic Team member Kelli (McMullen) Temple, and worked in the vet boxes for 3-Day events at Radnor, Morven Park, Woodside, and Ram Tap.

She had the good fortune to ride regularly with Beth Perkins (1976 Olympic Team member) and participate in clinics with Captain Mark Phillips, the late Jack LeGoff, Jimmy Wofford, and many others. Meggan also holds the distinction of USPC Instructor in the Big Sky Region and has coached students to championship wins in eventing and show jumping.

Now, as an instructor and barn owner herself, Meggan combines her Veterinary Technician training, deep love for teaching, and obsession with horse care to keep all the PGHB horses (and their riders) happy and healthy!

Jess Holloway, Co-Owner

teacher | reined cow horse trainer

Jess Holloway has been training horses in the Gallatin Valley for more than 20 years.

Montana born and raised, Jess has made a career out of doing what he loves most—teaching horses and teaching people. His earlier years were dedicated to starting colts. He believes in giving young horses “a fair shake” by clearly showing them what’s expected and building on their knowledge day by day.

He later took that colt starting experience to his alma mater, Montana State University, where he taught the Colt Starting Class for several years. Many of his MSU students still own the horses they trained in his class—they simply couldn’t part with them!

Jess continues to take a limited number of colt starting clients (contact him to get on the waitlist), but his primary passion these days is teaching Western horsemanship and training reined cow horses and riders.

As an instructor, he sets high expectations of horse and rider—but kindly supports the ups and downs of striving for constant improvement. If you want a deeper connection with your horse, someone to help you reach your goals, and a coach who has your back on good days and bad, you’ll love training with Jess.
